Demand for high-end residential projects continues to remain at high levels. While many are contemporary in style, Cera Stribley’s neo-classical design for Boxshall, located in the heart of Brighton, offers the comfort and space of a large home in a residential area.

Containing 15 apartments over three floors, the building will be located in the residential area of Middle Crescent, close to the Old Town Hall. Nearby parks and the tree-lined neighborhood were referenced in the design, with historic baths, bathing cabins, a yacht club, golf course and surrounding gardens all nearby.

“We made good use of the site’s vastness, elevation and north-facing light through the dynamic typology inspired by coastal rhythms and classic proportions,” says Dom Cerantonio, Cera Stribley’s Managing Director.

“The straight lines and solid forms reference public architecture and convey a sense of authority, while the principles of classical architecture are enhanced with contemporary details. This established architectural language allows the proposed building to blend comfortably into its streetscape, while contemporary detailing denotes a level of modern sophistication that is at home in the demanding neighborhood.

Myles Baldwin Design took care of landscape architecture, with a layered planting approach demonstrating biophilic tendencies. The plantings interact with the warm, minimalist palette adopted by Cera Stribley, where grey, charcoal and bronze recall the nearby coastline.

Studio Piet Boon oversaw the interior design, drawing inspiration from the Brighton lifestyle. The Dutch practice has created a modern, understated palette throughout the interior.

“The juxtaposition of light gray and charcoal hues defines the base palette, blending seamlessly into the natural surroundings while remaining sensitive to the neighborhood’s architectural vernacular,” says Cerantonio.
