Topcon invests in the future of construction with a donation to TU Dublin

Livermore, CA – November 2, 2022 – Topcon Positioning Systems has pledged to make two significant donations to TU Dublin, Ireland’s premier university of technology, which will enhance students’ experience of education on the latest methods of digital building. This announcement marks a new milestone in the long-standing relationship between the two organizations.

As a designer, manufacturer and distributor of precision measurement and workflow solutions, Topcon has a unique opportunity to support the university with an initial donation of equipment with a market value of 1.5 million euros. , which will be continuously updated with the latest technologies available. This approach is part of what Topcon calls its “Learn-Apply-Build” (LAB) initiative, helping universities keep pace with rapid changes in advanced technologies for hands-on training, equipping students with knowledge of building tools. and geopositioning. upon entering the labor market.

Additionally, Topcon has pledged to be a TU Dublin Cornerstone donor, making a philanthropic donation of €500,000 over a five-year period. This funding will support the development of a new Design + Construct Center at TU Dublin’s Broombridge site in Cabra, which will be a national center of excellence for construction, engineering and architectural education, and expand the university’s footprint in the Dublin region 7.

The donation also includes two fully-funded four-year college scholarships, and the relationship will give students the opportunity to participate in internships around the world at Topcon locations.

Current estimates predict that the Irish construction sector will employ just 78,000 workers by 2025, but with the Irish government’s ambitious national development plan requiring 180,000 construction workers1, it is imperative to strengthen the workforce in the sector. Topcon’s partnership with TU Dublin aims not only to address the skills gap in Ireland, but also to strengthen the pipeline of highly skilled workers entering the industry across Europe.

To mark this philanthropic support, a visit to the Broombridge site was recently conducted by Topcon representatives. The group met with TU Dublin staff and students to see first-hand how valuable the investment will be for their education and future careers.
